WHY CONVERT

Why convert AVIF to PNG?

PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, so it fits workflows where AVIF can’t open: design tools, editors, and CMS uploads that need a compatible image you can keep editing.

FORMAT NOTE

AVIF and PNG: important differences

PNG uses lossless compression and supports alpha. AVIF can be lossy or lossless and supports animation and higher color depths, but for photos it is usually 10–40 times smaller than PNG.

WHEN TO USE JPG

Need a smaller file? Convert to JPG instead

For sharing, email, or uploads where transparency isn’t needed, a JPG is smaller and more universally compatible. Use the AVIF to JPG converter for that task.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Good to know.

Is this AVIF to PNG converter free?

Yes. You can convert supported static AVIF images without creating an account.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens locally in your browser. Your original file remains on your device.

Is AVIF to PNG lossless?

PNG is lossless: every pixel in the file is kept exactly as it is. If your AVIF was saved with lossy compression, detail already lost in that file can’t be recovered, and re-saving a PNG does not add further loss.

Will transparency be preserved?

Yes. PNG supports alpha, so transparent areas in your AVIF are kept in the PNG output.

Why is my PNG so much larger than the AVIF?

PNG is a lossless format, so photographic content can be several times larger — sometimes 10× or more. Convert to JPG when you need a smaller file.

Can I convert an animated AVIF to PNG?

No. This tool accepts static AVIF files only; PNG does not support animation or multi-image sequences.

Why did conversion fail?

The file may be invalid, unsupported, over the limit, or unreadable in your current browser. Try a current browser or a different AVIF file.
